It's quite a thrill to take my place as the editor and art director of this great magazine. I've been waiting for this moment since I emigrated to the United States almost 9 years ago.

I'll be honest, my first years in this country were not easy. I know talking about immigration as a Mexican is a sensitive issue. Millions of people have emigrated in the last decade, and like every decision we make in life, the decision to emigrate is made in pursuit of happiness and well-being. That is why my point of view goes beyond immigration as a political issue. It is a story of adaptation, a story that I want to share briefly. Today there is a constant increase in the desire for emigration among several Latin American countries. The reasons can be endless and range from unemployment, education, work, insecurity, as well as political, family or cultural reasons. Moving to another country not only implies a change of environment, but also brings changes in food, culture and language.

I had studied English since first grade and I felt prepared to start conversations and communicate efficiently. But I was wrong, because it was not only understanding the language but also the culture. The adaptation process was not easy, I had to learn to give up many things such as family, friends, lifestyle and even the weather, but I understood that I could still continue visiting and seeing my relatives in other circumstances. Over time I realized that change is a good thing in life because it helps us evolve. Changing places not only brought me an opportunity to develop in another culture, but also allowed me to meet exceptional people in this country. The changes, although difficult, are worth it. Whatever the situation or reason why you are leaving your country, the first thing I advise you to do is have a clear objective and seek useful information for your adaptation process.

Of course, I cannot help but thank and highlight the immense and hard work of the entire team who made this magazine possible. Thanks to all of them, and to the sponsors for believing in the possibility of creating closer ties with the Hispanic community.

In this magazine you will not only find useful information about education, health, finances or immigration, but also information about what is happening in Arkansas and the Hispanic community. I hope you enjoy the first issue of Arkansas Total as we begin to build a more informed and united community.

Es muy emocionante ocupar mi lugar como editor y director de arte de esta gran revista. He estado esperando este momento desde que emigré a Estados Unidos hace casi nueve años.

Voy a ser honesto, mis primeros años en este país no fueron sencillos, como mexicano hablar de inmigración es un tema delicado. Millones de personas han emigrado en la última década y como cada decisión que tomamos en la vida es para buscar felicidad y bienestar. Es por eso que mi punto de vista va más allá de un tema político, es una historia de adaptación que quiero compartir brevemente. Hoy en día existe un aumento constante en el deseo de emigración en varios países de latino América. Las razones pueden ser infinitas y van desde el desempleo, educación, trabajo, inseguridad, razones políticas, familiares o culturales. El mudarme a otro país no solo implicó un cambio de entorno, sino también de alimentación, cultura e idioma.

Yo había estudiado inglés desde primero de primaria, me sentía preparado para entablar conversaciones y comunicarme eficientemente, pero estaba en un error, porque no solo era entender el idioma sino también la cultura. El proceso de adaptación no fue sencillo, tuve que aprender a renunciar a muchas cosas como familiares, amigos, estilo de vida y hasta el clima, pero entendí que aún podría seguir visitando y viendo a mi familiar solo que en otro tipo de circunstancias. Con el tiempo me di cuenta que el cambio es algo bueno en la vida porque nos ayuda a evolucionar, el cambiar de lugar no solo trajo para mi una oportunidad para desarrollarme en otra cultura, sino también de conocer personas excepcionales en este país. Los cambios aunque son difíciles valen la pena. Sea cual sea la situación o razón por la que estás dejando tu país, lo primero que aconsejo hacer es tener un objetivo claro y buscar información útil para tu proceso de adaptación.

Por supuesto, no puedo dejar de agradecer y resaltar el inmenso y arduo trabajo de todo el equipo detrás de este esfuerzo que hizo posible hacer esta revista, gracias a todos ellos y los patrocinadores por creer en la posibilidad de crear nexos más estrechos en la comunidad hispana.

En esta revista no solo encontrarás información útil sobre educación, salud, finanzas o inmigración, sino también información sobre lo que acontece en Arkansas y la comunidad hispana. Espero que disfrutes el primer número de Arkansas Total y comencemos a construir una comunidad más informada y unida.
