Arkansas has three diplomatic representations: the Mexican Consulate in Little Rock, the Marshall Islands Consulate in Springdale and, starting this year, the Salvadoran Consulate in Springdale.

A total of 2,307,000 Salvadorans live in the United States according to the Pew Research Center, a third of the population of the small Central American nation. The number is only surpassed by Mexico and Puerto Rico.

To serve this large population, the Salvadoran state decided to create four new consulates in the United States. The one in Springdale opened on June 6 and began operating the next day, operated by its vice-consul and three officials. It serves Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, and Kansas, where the consulate estimates that 39,202 Salvadorans live. They serve a monthly average of 9,375 clients.
